Amelita (Ami) Armit is a retired public service professional actively engaged in community volunteer work. She worked with the Alberta Government for over ten years in various senior positions in Industry and Commerce, Federal and Intergovernmental Affairs, Native Affairs and finally as Assistant Deputy Minister in Health and Social Services. In 1987 she joined the Federal Government as Director General of the National Transportation Agency. She then served as Assistant Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Canada and subsequently, as Secretary General and Vice President of the Public Service Commission. Amelita, to date, is the only Filipino who has achieved the rank of Assistant Deputy Minister in the Canadian public service. Her career culminated with the Parliamentary Centre which she joined in 2005, eventually becoming its President and CEO from 2008-2010. She also served as Board Governor of Algonquin College, Board Member of the City of Ottawa Public Library, the Institute of Public Administration of Canada and Philippine Centre Canada.

Ami's Contribution to her profession and community has been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth Silver (1977) and Gold (2002) Jubilee Medals, the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada (1992), and the  Pamana Award from the Government of the Republic of the Philippines for Professional Achievement and Honour to the Filipino People (2000). She is a graduate of the University of the Philippines in Business Administration/Economics (1966) and   holds a Master in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (1979).
