Renjie L. Butalid
Renjie Butalid is an award-winning entrepreneur whose work lies at the intersection of technology startups, social innovation, and cross-sector civic engagement. Renjie is Co-founder of the Montreal AI Ethics Institute (MAIEI), helping to define humanity’s place in a world increasingly characterized and driven by algorithms. MAIEI, whose AI Ethics community now includes over 1,400 members, does this by creating tangible and applied technical and policy research in the ethical, safe and inclusive development of AI. Renjie was previously Associate Director of the Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship at McGill University, where he raised over $8-million for the Dobson Centre and its entrepreneurship programs. At McGill, Renjie mentored over 100+ technology, bio-medical and social enterprise startups on customer discovery, business strategy, market research, defining and measuring KPIs, customer acquisition, growth hacking, and fundraising. Renjie is a Global Shaper with the World Economic Forum, a member of the Banff Forum, and was named top 40 Under 40 by the Waterloo Region Record.
